Run 0-106

If there's anything I regret as it pertains to creating this blog, it's not starting from run 0.  Run 0 was a few days before Run 1; I had stayed home from work due to an increasingly common gastrointestinal issue that took me out of commission for 24 hours at a time every 3 months for the last two years.  I spoke to my fiancĂ© on the phone who very clearly let me know that I needed to make changes.  In short, she gave me the ultimatum I had secretly been waiting for.
Run 1 (May 6) was no run at all.  Neither was 2; however I got brave for run 3 and ran one mile straight, but had difficulty breathing for the next two days and my hands tingled something awful, so I decided to wait awhile before I tried again.  I kept walking though.  It wasn't until Run 45 or so (mid-August) that I told myself that my hour workouts would only be 30-40 minutes if I'd just run a little.  My health is much improved, and the rest is pretty much history, which I'll document in bullet format to keep record.
  • May 6:  began walking
  • Mid-August:  began run-walking
  • Somewhere in there:  lost 30 pounds!
  • Nov 28:  competed in my first 5-k
  • Nov 30:  logged my first 60-mile month!
  • Dec 22:  ran two miles straight for the first time since leaving the Army
Fast-forward to tonight, 106 runs in, and I've been almost a year without a gastro-attack, my sports asthma is pretty much gone, no more tingling hands, and my 107th run will be a half-marathon on Sunday!

Here's to the next 106.
